I had to take leave here and catch my breath! Do you see the awesomeness of this? Can you even phantom being blessed and finding favor with God as Mary did? We are always saying we are blessed but do we truly grasp just how blessed we could be if we were in complete obedience to God's Word ... if we were diligently seeking Him daily ... if we were honoring Him as He is worthy to be honored ... if we spent time with Him like we do our best friends? Isn't God supposed to be our best friend? What do you desire to do with someone you love ... you long to spend time with them ... you long to share every aspect of your life with them ... you long to know as much about them as you possibly can ... you hunger for them!!!! Do you hunger for God today? Do you call Him your best friend?
Reading further along I came across these scriptures: Luke 1:46-55 And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, for He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name, and His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever." Do you see how Mary earned God's favor? She is so humble ... she hungers for God and calls Him 'my Savior' ... she is appreciative and acknowledges all the wonderful things God has done for her. I would go so far to say that God is Mary's best friend.
These verses shared a great deal with me this morning. As much as I feel I have a good personal relationship with Jesus ... as much as I think I give of myself for Him ... as much as I pray ... as much as I take time out of my day to study ... it is nothing compared to what I could be doing for Him or should be doing for Him. I think if we took the time to truly study Mary's relationship and feelings towards God, we would see how much we lack in our walk with Him. He blesses me everyday of my life and I am but me. I am no where near the humble servant Mary was. He favors me daily and I do not give of myself nearly as much as Mary did. As Joyce Meyer often says, "I want to be a spiritual hog. I want it all when it comes to my relationship with Jesus." What do you want today?
