As I am studying His Word this morning through heavy eyes, I am reading in Luke 24. I got to the place where Jesus has reappeared to His followers. He is speaking to them so they understand it is truly He. Reading further on my attention falls on Luke 24:45 which read, "Then Jesus opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures." Do you grasp where I am going with this?
Every morning before I read His word, I pray and ask for understanding. I pray He give me enlightenment so I can see what He is saying ... so I can find the little nuggets between each line. I want to find His purpose for me for this given day or for the days which lie ahead. I have to have my spiritual eyes wide open in order to understand anything I am reading. Otherwise, it is just another book and I have wasted my time. I do this every morning! My eyes sometimes get dimmed throughout my day because of everything they take in ... crime in the world, things I hear around me, things I do which hinder me! Therefore, each morning I get renewed on His grace and mercy which are new each day, and then I again ask Him for clear discernment and understanding. It is vital I do this!!!!
I also ask that He open my ears so I may be able to hear His still small voice. If He speaks to me, I want to be certain I am in a position to hear Him.
People say all the time, "I have read the Bible numerous times and I get nothing out of it." Or, you have those that simply try to read it as a story and they come away saying it is a fairy tale of sorts. Hear me when I say that these individuals are not lying. They read and read and it is only a fairy tale to them or they get nothing out of it. To them, it is exactly as they say.
How in the world could this be true? How do some see such hope, prophesy, faith, encouragement, wisdom, leadership, etc., in the Bible while others find nothing or come away seeing it as a fairy tale? The answer is really simple though we make it very complex. You are one of two people ... you either understand the Bible and all that it has OR you do not. It is those of you who 'do not' that concern me.
Let's say you proclaim to be a Christian but you have no understanding of God's Word. This would scare me to death ... LITERALLY! Or you read the Bible but you just cannot grasp it. Again, this would put me on full alert to the fact that something is amiss. If you are a Christian ... if you are truly seeking Him ... if you are truly striving ... you notice I said striving because no one can do it perfectly ... yet you cannot stand to read the Bible or you get nothing out of it, then there is a serious problem.
Every day before I read I have to ask God to re-open my eyes to give me understanding ... more understanding than I had yesterday ... so I can find Him, so I can hear Him, so I can fellowship with Him, so I can remain in His perfect will for my life. If you are not asking Him for discernment ... if you have not allowed Him to open your eyes, then you will not find understanding and the Bible will always be just a book to you and not the most precious love story ever written!!!!
If your eyes are not open, then something in your relationship to Christ is greatly abscured. Do not be fooled by the fact you do not understand the Bible. I think it would be difficult to proclaim a personal relationship with Christ when you have no inkling of what He is saying. The Bible is God's word to you ... it is His promises to you ... it is His love to you! How can we have a personal relationship with Him and not have received those things? Please ... I beg you today ... to take a closer look at your relationship to Him. Are you truly walking in the light or are you saying what you know in your heart is not true? This is not about your family ... it is not about your friends ... it is not about your neighbor ... it is not about your mentors ... it is not about your church or your church family ... it is not about your pastor ... it is about you!!!! We cannot get to heaven on someone else's shirt tail. This is one journey that is all yours. Are you travelling the right road?
Before I close, let me say that there are many who have a personal relationship with Christ but cannot for the life of them read the Bible. They simply cannot do it. In this instance, they find good Bible teaching tapes and videos to help them through. I have the complete Bible on DVD's and CD's. There are many times when I am out of town or I cannot find a moment to escape to read His Word. It is then that I listen to the CD's in my car every moment I can. If you truly want Him, you will find Him!
I am here for anyone that needs prayer ... anyone that needs guidance ... anyone that simply needs companionship to get on the right track. I am praying for you today. As always, please continue to pray for me. Love to you all!!!!
